Oiling is a Myth…….

says Dr. Shahid Shamsher, the best hair doctor in Bangalore at Dr Health, the Hair and Skin Clinic in Bangalore.

1. I have hair fall every since coming to Bangalore. People told me it’s due to the local water, so I started using mineral water to wash the hair. But that has made no change. Please help.

Dr Shahid Shamsher, trichologist  at dr health, the skin and hair clinic, bangalore says,

Change of water does cause hair loss in most cases. It’s not a question of good water or bad water, just the change of water is enough to trigger off hair fall. The good news however is that in most cases the fall subsides on its own as the scalp adjusts to the new environment. However if the fall persists for more than 90 days, then you need to seek medical assistance for the same.

2. My mother forces me to apply oil at least 2-3 times per week. But in fact I notice that the fall increases when I apply oil. Is it true that oiling the scalp is compulsory for nourishing the hair?

Dr Shahid Shamsher, trichologist  at dr health, the skin and hair clinic, bangalore says,

It’s not true at all. The hair gets its nourishment just like the rest of the body does, through the food you eat. Most men have plenty of hair growing in the moustache and beard. Have you ever heard of any man applying oil on their face to make it grow? And yet that hair grows very well, does it not? Unfortunately however, tradition is not always easily countered with logic.

3. I have been having sticky dandruff since years. Tried every anti-dandruff shampoo available, but to no effect. How can I get rid of this?

Dr Shahid Shamsher, trichologist  at dr health, the skin and hair clinic, bangalore says,

Well, first of all, you can’t. It will never go, because it is not dandruff. The sticky substance on your scalp is the oil secreted by your scalp. It is known as sebum and it will be always be there. The only choice you have is to maintain it correctly, so that it does not lead to scalp infections and hair fall.

Hi i gone through your blog.Having good information. Thanks for sharing useful information about Hair transplant .

Spot on with this write-up, I truly feel this web site needs a great deal more attention. I’ll probably be returning to read more, thanks
for the information!

I started losing my hair at the age of 23. But I was really not so concerned then as I thought it was a minor problem. But it continued such that I could see a noticeable receding hairline. I think when it first happens you really have no idea how quickly a hair loss can proceed. You only realize when the condition worsens. I then met Dr Shamsher at Dr health clinic. After reviewing my mother’s side family history he made me realize that I had inherited male pattern baldness. I started taking his treatment for controlling the rapid hair loss so and to regrow the lost hair. He gave some tablets to intake and some liquid medicine to mix in shampoo (I also had some fungal infection on my scalp) and apply which was head and shoulders shampoo and 8x anti-fungal shampoo to use. In 3 months time, the fungal infection was completely gone and in 6 months the hair fall had reduced to just 8-10 strands in the whole day. Subsequently he gave me one maintenance therapy and told me to continue using head and shoulders, which I am doing till today. I must have spent a total of Rs 8000 on this treatment. He had clearly told me that there is no permanent cure for this but I can save my hair for now and maintain it well with the natural foods so I can postpone the baldness for at least another 15 to 20 years… hopefully.

Recently every time I left the shower I would see the drain clogged with hair. Even when I used to comb my hair would see bunches of hair on the comb. My periods were also very irregular and I had difficulty in conceiving and now this severe hair loss. All this was so frightening. When this problem persisted it made me wonder all the possible reasons behind such severe hair fall. I met Dr Shahid at his dr health clinic. When I explained my condition he immediately diagnosed me for pcod. Post that he said that he will help me with the hair fall and I will have to strictly regularly intake medicines. But at the same time he made it very clear that since periods is not his expertise I will have to meet a gynaec for it. The scariest thing he told me was pcod causes male type of baldness and clearly said that there is no cure for the same. Anyways I need to take things step by step so for now controlling the hair fall is the priority hence have started the treatment and am regularly taking medicines.
